Just when you think you’ve mastered the latest smartphones, tablets and more technologysomething new is coming everyone talk about.
Unless you live a perfectly disconnected life, ChatGPT is the term of the 2023 so far.
ChatGPT is, according to many, a smart and innovative chatbot.
Launched by San Francisco-based company OpenAI in November 2022, it’s a free service (for now) with some paid features and upgrades.
But how can you use it and what are some of its benefits?
How to register for ChatGPT
First, the basics. To actually access the AI bot, you must first create an account.
To do this, open the AI chatbot link and follow the on-screen instructions.
You can either enter a new email address or sign up using an existing Google or Microsoft account. You will then be asked for a mobile phone number. They will text you a security code to verify it is you before you can access the main chatbot screen.
What data does ChatGPT use?
The chatbot model was trained using text databases on the Internet.
This includes 570 GB of data obtained from books, web texts, Wikipedia, articles and other writings on the Internet.
It’s been reported that over 300 billion words have been fed into the system – so you should get fairly complete and accurate answers.
How to use ChatGPT once you are logged in
Incredibly smart AI bot works like most other chatbotsif you have used one before.
There is a box to enter text and press send, and the ChatGPT responds accordingly.
Since it’s a “language model” AI bot, it understands how we speak colloquially, so you don’t have to be formal in asking questions or follow strict grammar rules.
For example, we typed “make coffee” and ChatGPT responded with the ingredients needed to make one.
On the left side of the screen, you also have a chat manager box where you can save a chat or create a new chat. Saved conversations can be viewed later.
How to use ChatGPT, as explained by ChatGPT themselves
What better way to explain how to use the AI bot than to put it to work.
We opened the site and asked the following question: “How to use ChatGPT?”.
After a wait time of about 40 seconds, we got this response:
‘Good morning! I’m ChatGPT, a language model designed to provide support and answer questions on a wide range of topics. You can use me by typing your question or prompt in the chat box and I will respond with a relevant answer.
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of our conversation:
Be specific: The more specific you are in your question, the more specific my answer will be. Avoid vague or ambiguous requests.
Ask follow-up questions: If my answer isn’t clear or you want more information, feel free to ask follow-up questions. I will do my best to provide additional information.
Be patient: sometimes it may take a few moments for your question to be processed and an answer to be generated. Please wait and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Keep it Appropriate: Please keep the conversation respectful and appropriate. I am programmed to provide helpful and informative answers, so please refrain from using offensive language or making inappropriate requests.
I’m here to help, so don’t hesitate to ask me anything you’re interested in or need help with!
Who can use ChatGPT?
ChatGPT can basically be used by anyone who has an account right now.
But if you want to do more than just have fun with it, some of its features make it ideal for:
- Academic research – do you need a lot of information on a specific topic? Ask ChatGPT. It’s great for students
- Brainstorm ideas – you can ask ChatGPT to gather some information about a topic you want to explore
- Customer service – don’t want to write the same answers to the same questions? ChatGPT can write you a generic reply to share
- Prepare for a job interview – have the AI bot come up with hypothetical interview questions and scenarios so you can hone your skills.
